      Intelligent Intelligence - INTEL -

      0 Not allowed!
A part of the change of culture in the Empire is streamlining the logistics to increase the efficiency of what is being brought together. That meant that, since Tauren and Minister Saria were already working on more joint operations and close-knit communication, much of the Intelligence facility was being torn down. Those who were clear for the "why", Keeper Akilah being one of them, will know that this land was being re-purposed for new flightlines, R&D and a public facility that will change the hearts and minds of the galaxy. No, this was not some "galactic apology tour" or some cheap attempt to make the Empire more fluffy and kid friendly, but one that abhors waste.

      Wasted space.

      Wasted attitudes.

      Wasted actions.

The mass of Intel is slowly being informed, but Minister Saryl himself wanted a select few individuals here to inform himself. There was more to what will be happening, and those that come here today are the ones who he wants to know about it.

Dressed in her newest, dark grey suit, Akilah strolled into the briefing room having been summoned by the military's minister and though she knew some of what the meeting was about, there was still other details having been left out. Much of her time the last couple of years, she had been helping keep an eye on their new 'ally', the Republic that they had signed a peace treaty with. Though she didn't believe the politicians on their side of this renewed quiet, she definitely respected what the empress had put in place. Many of the old salts not only in the military, but also in the intelligence community, believed that this was only the calm before the storm. Giving both sides a chance to rebuild and strengthen areas that had taken the most damage during the war. Either way, no one was going to catch Intel offguard when the shooting inevitably started again.

Claiming a comfortably padded chair on the first row, Akilah relaxed in it's padding, seeing a few other familiar faces now entering the room and moving toward other chairs to her right and left. Soon, hazel eyes drifted to the minister now gathering his thoughts, not a few feet from her now.

It had finally happened. She had her hair in a tight braid, her uniform was neat, and she was ready. Like the others, she was of the opinion that both sides were merely 'preparing'. But preparing for what, she had no idea. Because, like a lot of the others, she wasn't of high enough rank to know.

But now, with luck, that was about to change. She had lucked out in being tapped for a special team. But the team had been scrubbed, dismantled before it would be used. Perhaps now she would get an assignment that she and the others who had been chomping at the bit had been waiting for.

She arrived with others and took a seat just behind Akilah and to her right. Second row, the first row was full. It was a small room and made her wonder what the criteria it was this group had been assembled from. She looked at the man at the front of the room and smiled slightly. She knew him. Not intimately, or even very well. But she had worked with him and he had been at the group briefing lunch when she was hired. It made her feel better to see a familiar face.

The young agent finally made his way into the facility. He had hoped that the rumors weren't true, but 'Diali didn't let himself worry about the possibility, he was a team player. Laughing inwardly at how ironic that comment was, the Chiss followed into the crowd and worked on his "blending" skills but it was difficult when your skin was the color of a great many icy things. The one great thing about the amateur historian was just that, he loved history... that could work towards his "cover personality"... noted for another time.

When he found the building as to which he was being summoned, 'Diali used his historical love to attempt to figure out the origin of theming of the building, he had hoped it was Dromund Kass as he wanted to learn more about the planet and the time. Of course that was going to have to wait as the room he was being lead into had the new "Keeper" in it. There were a few other agents of non-descript meaning, and one blonde chick... is that a "Serpaphim" patch? Wow. He had little recourse or room to choose any other chair than one in the back.

The room was met by his typical scowl. Though anyone who has been around him long enough would know that Tauren was not scowling at any of them, but at someone, or something else.

We are going to begin in a few moments. I am giving the "late arrivals" a last chance to decide whether they want to be a part of the future or not. Keeper, please take note of who is missing. He didn't look at who he was speaking to, but "they" would know who he was addressing.

Adrift in her own thoughts, Akilah's attention was grabbed as the minister spoke finally and hazel eyes rose to him, then she leaned forward and tapped in a code to the computer before her. Within moments, she had access to the stations within the room and began noting the empty chairs, then tagged them for reference later. Knowing that anyone having been summoned to the meeting that didn't show better have a good reason, she was prepared for action later, after they were done here. Intel agents' lives revolved around information and this gathering was for a particular reason, which meant that those that were absent should either be in the hospital, out on a mission, or dead.

Closing the monitor off to those seated around her, she reclined once more and kept her opinions to herself knowing the minister and she would no doubt have that discussion later.

Kiana was glad, as the room filled, that she wasn't one of those on the list who 'missed the memo' to be here. She had been on the bad end back in the beginning. Overslept, missed a briefing, she realized quickly that in a mission environment, asking what's going on all the time was a hindrance to more than just the mission. It alienated those around her and left her unwanted for quite a while.

She had eventually proven herself, and between the tap out and other missions, she was now a good agent and one that never missed a meeting or briefing, and almost never asked what was up when something happened.

She smiled at the Chiss as he came in, as she had to many of the others. She recognized him from the halls, but had never met him. It was the same with several of the folks who had come in. She glanced back up at Mr. Saryl and wondered what wonderful adventure she was going to be part of now.

      The time had passed.

Those who were expected, dropped the proverbial ball.

They would all be dealt with.

They've had their chance. Let's get started.

The backdrop opened to several styles of shuttle and fighter, only "blacked out" and "tricked up". There were models wearing new "web gear" and the like, not to mention the new official uniforms.

Imperial Intelligence will always be its own department, but from this point, for logistics purposes Intelligence is a part of the Military. Before any of you question, nothing will change for you that is not beneficial to you.

Walking out in front of the lecturn and point out to the flightline.

Each of you will be assigned your own transportation, be it a fighter, shuttle, or in the case of Keeper, a Destroyer. You will each hold rank in the military if necessary, so as you can control a situation if necessary. Before you ask, you only answer to Watchers and Keeper.

Continuing to walk around and among those gathered he continued to speak.

From time to time, your ops will coincide with a military operation. While you answer to your own,
you will work side by side with your fellow Imperials.

Looking around with an expectant stare.

      Questions to this point...

Some of these items had been mentioned before to Akilah as she listened to the updates to their department and she knew that training would have to soon follow. Having read up on many of the gear and weapons they would have access to had kept her busy in the evenings while eating dinner at her condo. Much of what was coming would also broaden their realm of influence, but also allow them more tools to work with as well. She was excited at most of what had been gained in the last year alone.

When the minister opened the floor for questions, she cleared her throat. "Did you want me to start arranging training sessions with the Army or Navy? At least Spec Ops teams that we might be working with in the future?"

Kiana raised her hand and waited to receive the nod to ask her question. "You mentioned being given ranks to be able to interact with the military. Will those ranks be permanent or vary depending on the assignment." Realizing that it made it sound like she was gunning for a high rank, she added. "I ask because going on one mission as a Lieutenant and one as a Captain could raise dissent between us if they feel the ranks are being handed out like candy, despite us knowing different." She knew the ranks wouldn't be thrown around willy-nilly. But she also knew that it was possible that, depending on the mission, their rank would have to be high enough to garner respect from the highest actual ranks on the missions.

"Did she really just say that?" He thought to himself, his facial expressions betraying him mercilessly. The thought that a rank would not be a permanent one is ludicrous as it made absolutely no sense. 'Diali just looked at her and shook his head. If this was the type of Cypher that the "New Empire" was going to be morphing into then maybe he should consider transferring to the Army.

"How did you get a Seraphim patch?" Yeah, he knew all eyes were now on him, but he figured that he was right to ask.

Your speaking privileges have been revoked for the remainder of this briefing.

The Minister of Defense had gained a level of patience that had been remarkably unseen in previous regimes, but he still would get ticked off from time to time. Pointing at the Chiss agent he waited to be challenged.

      Speak and see what happens.

      Pointing again.

      Hmm?

Eventually he went to answering questions. First was Akilah.

Yes, pull from the Storm Commandos first. Many of them are surprisingly efficient, especially in urban environments. There is also a Mandalorian female that you'll find in the Stormtroopers, she might be useful to you as well.
We'll focus on them first and get to working with the Navy soon after.

The next question came from Deruss.

Yes, though you will not carry the clearance of those ranks, as you will not need it, you will all hold comparable ranks to your station. Next questions.

He answered a few more, some asked about the blacked out equipment(sensor reflective), some asked about command of troops (depends on the situation and only in the field). All the while he was looking directly at the rather embarrassed Chiss for another moment before letting it go. The guy got the message, no use rubbing it in.

Nodding, Akilah typed in a few notes of those to begin looking for in the Army and then stopped as one of the male Chiss agents' comment was a bit rude, glancing back to him and noting the male, though the minister immediately quashed any further argument that may ensue. The blonde's query a legitimate one that she had almost thought to ask herself, but was beaten to the punch. Being a part of a Black Ops unit would in some cases require them to have some authority, though she knew that part would be worked out later. This plan still being in the early stages, there were no doubt a lot of kinks to work out.

Hazel eyes then returned to the minister as he continued tending to other concerns. Making a few more notes reflecting the items mentioned, she hoped she had enough to start working on. Contacts for those officers in the military would come soon enough, her cousin being an admiral in the Navy no doubt among them. It had been some time since she had actually talked to Verica, the more she thought about it. Their lives having gone in two separate directions.

As the questions were asked, she heard the query from behind her. Between the accent and the placement, she had a feeling it was the Chiss. A raise of her eyebrows was all she gave in acknowledgment. She clenched her hands slightly in her lap to keep herself from turning around and saying something stupid. As Tauren denied speaking privilages, it took her a moment to realize he wasn't pointing at her, but the one behind her. She hadn't thought the question a bad one, but for a second... she had a doubt.

As Tauren went on to reply to the various queries, her own included, she relaxed a bit. She had often been told her mouth ran away before her mind. But she had also been told in training that no question was stupid. Occasionally they were unnecessary, but never stupid. As she heard the answers to the other questions, she chided herself for having not thought of them. She was glad she wasn't the only one who thought out of the box.

While the briefing continued, she made a note to speak to Akilah afterwards and see if she could be of any help. There were two reasons for the thought. One reason was to get to better know the woman who appeared to be the Minister's right hand man. The second was to make more friends in the group. Sometimes, in the field, your life depended on the others. She liked to know whose back she was watching... and who was watching her own.

The next question came from one of the remaining Grand Admirals, Desat, a long time member of "The Circle of Twelve" before it was dissolved. He had a question that no doubt everyone in the military here was thinking, he wasn't the first in this briefing to believe that, but unlike Coldi'Ali'Nuorodo, the Chiss Cypher, he was right.

"Why are you raiding the military numbers to strengthen Intel? Is that your game Saryl? Merging us into them?" He was indeed right as Tauren could see much the same reaction from others in the room. The Cypher in him would have done unspeakable things and made it look like natural causes.

To answer your first question, I am not, but we are all Imperial and working together is a part of the new culture. You will adapt. To answer your second and third questions, I do not play "games". Do you believe that the information you get, or "intelligence reports" come from the information fairy? It comes from Intel. You need them.

He was standing in front of several agents as he said this, only to move towards the military side.

Just like they need you. They need you for survival training, for infiltration, for exfil. Our success depends on the both of you and it is time to stop being entirely separate. It is time for cooperation.

"That's all well and good, but you told them that they will hold ranks. I'm not entirely happy with the idea of my troops being ordered around by an agent with potentially half of their field experience." That question, coming from a general was a fair one, and brought out more support.

Vice Versa as well. Just as an agent could lead a team through a building or order a "stand down"
if ranked, an officer could order an agent to locate a S.A.M.* site or something comparable. Conversely, no agent could order your men into battle just as you could not send an agent into a firefight.

The answer may not have completely satisfied everyone, but it seemed to put a few at ease.

      Last chance for questions.
